Author, Rick Van Noy, Radford University
In his book, A Natural Sense of Wonder, Van Noy describes his methods for getting his own two kids out of the house and into nature. His job, as he sees it, is not to diagnose or condemn the growing indoor trend, but to show his readers an alternative. How does a parent tempt their children out the door when so many beeps, whistles, and flashing lights beckon from within?

Fun Fact
If you are a typical adult, you'll breathe in close to 3,500 gallons of air in a single day. The EPA estimates that 5 to 20% of the total U.S. population is especially susceptible to the harmful effects of ozone pollution.
Ozone, an invisible gas forms in the atmosphere from heat, sunlight and pollutants (from cars, trucks, lawnmowers, boats and others sources). Your lung function can be reduced by as much as 20 percent. High concentrations of ozone can cause shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, fatigue, headaches, nausea, chest pain, and eye and throat irritation.
